ALSO the charts and tables are hard to see due to chosen background colors I was tempted to buy the older edition which is more easier on the eyes..I am really disappointed that one would publish a book with such small print. I suppose it all has to do with money. It would be nice to have the choice of buying the textbook in a larger print edition.

What in the actual heck did I just read? This series hasn’t been romance focused from the off – they have each had a little romance thrown in, but it was never the focus – but this was on a different level. I am not sure how I feel about anything I read in this book. I was partially disappointed, because I didn’t learn anything new about The Elite, and partly fascinated by how unwell Sebastian was.Sebastian was at the very least a sociopath, at most he was criminally insane and wholly disconnected with reality. He was obsessive and terrifying in a way I didn’t expect after what we’d seen of him in the other books. It was that apparent mask in combination with his actions and thoughts in Envy that made me sure of his sociopathic state. As much as the others nebulously identified with their sins, Sebastian embodied envy. He couldn’t appreciate anything he had because he was too busy desiring what others possessed.I was disappointed with this book, though, because it didn’t develop my understanding of The Elite any further. There was something I had already suspected confirmed in Envy, but nothing new. All of the Elite interactions had already been hashed out in the previous novels, so it felt repetitive by the time we read it here.I wish this book had been a little more involved. I felt like everything was very much limited to surface details when we could have got a much more intense and fulfilling story had it been longer and really delved into Sebastian’s mental deficiencies. Envy had the potential for excellence but ended up falling short because it felt so rushed.Envy is the fourth book in the Elite Seven series. Each book in the series is written by a different author, about a different sin, with different characters, but to get the complete picture of what is going on at St. Augustine’s with The Elite, the series will need to be read in its entirety.

Get ready to ride the crazy train with Envy. Sebastian is a very complex young man. All he wants is to find a woman who will fall madly in love with him unconditionally. Sounds like a real charmer, right? WRONG, he is a lunatic that has some very dark and dangerous ways about him. You never know what is going on his head. You will get a closer look into exactly what he has been up to and all that it affects. Sabella,is the object of his obsession. Will he make her fall for him? This story is packed with mystery and intrigue. Not all is as it seems especially dealing with one who is off the rails. What impact will Sebastian make on himself and the others in The Elite Seven? This book blew me away. I wasn't expecting how this story was going to go down. It was depraved, twisted, and left me on the brink of insanity (in a good way). I can't wait to see what happens next in this exceptional series.

Now love and affection has become all he thinks about. Love from the perfect woman.Sabella has become his sole focus. She’s too sweet to avoid him, so she puts him in the friend zone. She thinks that will keep him in check, but she has no idea who she’s dealing with.This story was nothing that I expected. It’s dark and twisted. I found it to be a quick read that will leave you wondering, “What the hell just happened?”. I am eager to read the next book in the series to find out more.

Forgy really gets into a jaded mindset with Sebastian. I did not see him or how this turned out coming. At all. I’m beyond shooketh.Call me crazy but Sebastian was amazing! He was a shadow lurking. Poor guy just wanted some love and friendships! I’m slightly sad his story isn’t ending paired up like the last Elite Seven stories.You definitely have to read all previous stories to understand this one better. But trust me. Stick with it. Because this book will have you frothing at the mouth demanding more. It’s worth it!!

The Elite Seven Just Took An Even Darker Turn And We Have Sebastian Westbrook To Blame For It.All I Know When I Saw Words The End I Was Basically Stunned. I Can’t Wait To See Where Book Five Goes But I’m Sure It Will Be Another Shocker

On one hand I can understand how he could be the way he is but dang he is really kinda evil. I look forward to the last 3 books to get closure to his story.

5 CRAZY DARK STARS!! Envy is crazy, dark, sexy and dangerous. Sebastian is crazy about Sabella and being part of the elite, he will do whatever it takes. I was glued to this book, it was so dark and mesmerizing. This series has been phenomenal, you definitely need to read these books.

Thank you for this great study to help heal from the emotional wounds from an abortion decision. It is presented with such compassion and helps women to understand what happened to them. The book is republished with a peaceful cover and the pages are a light color and a readable sized font. It has plenty of room to write and journal.

This revised version is pleasing to the eye and flows nicely!

This is a beautiful update to the original bible study with the same powerful message as the original. The difference to me is the update is easier to use, and read with lots of writing space. Any women who is post abortive I would highly recommend to take this study that can set a captive free from the guilt, and shame that abortion brings. You will find that as you take this study that there's forgiveness through Jesus Christ to be forgiven and set free. As a volunteer at a pregnancy resource center where we offer STS, I will be giving them this updated version to use on new clients. God bless you Pat for your loving and giving heart. Praying for many women to have access to this wonderful, biblical study.

I have used this study for 6 years to walk beside women broken from their past choice. Each time a small group completes this book, each woman has experienced some form of restoration. Peace and freedom are found. Emotional numbness melts away. Shame no longer cripples the spirit. Women with depression and anxiety often pinpoint the source of that pain. Purchased this item for a book club and we haven't finished the book yet but so far so good. Can't give it a 5 yet as were not done with it.

I love how this book breaks everything down within the week. It starts out with a full description of the woman and everyday you go et a nugget about her. Monday is her story, Tuesday her life and times, Wednesday her legacy, Thursday her promise and Friday her legacy of prayer. It's perfect for me because it allows me to fully focus and digest everything about this person and it keeps it interesting and memorable. I think this book is perfect for a women's Bible study group. I highly recommend it.

This book so far is changing my life (6weeks in). I know that sounds dramatic but the Lord has radically used each one of these women each week to teach me something, encourage me in some way or experience Him in a way that only the Most High can do. We serve a mighty God who allows sinful people to graciously play a part in his love story. This book has been so good to slow way down and really think about the lives, cultures, circumstances, struggles etc of each of these women and what a sacred role these undeserving women played yet is what makes the Bible believable because this is who we are too. Treacherous selfish women in need of redemption. To God be the Glory!

Okay, so Book Gnome is a guy . . . But I bought this devotional for my wife and was intrigued enough with some of the entries to start using it for our morning devotions. I've been impressed by the author's ability to include the most unlikely and briefly-mentioned women in the Bible, and manage to build a reasonably relevant chapter from each. That was totally unexpected. For those more familiar Bible women, the author often provides a bit of literary (but reasonable) license to make you see them in a new light, and asks questions you never thought of before. With over four decades of Bible stories and a couple years of Bible college under my belt, it's extremely refreshing to get a new perspective on many of these old Bible stories--a reminder that you should always be ready to learn something new from the Bible, even from the most familiar of passages. One of our favorite sections of each chapter is "Her Life and Times," which provides historical perspective of Biblical history and customs that enrich each story background. Of course, the target audience doesn't include manly Book Gnomes, so there are plenty of "How do you think she felt?" style questions, but there's also very solid teaching and real thought-provoking material here. This is a great book (in any format--we have the Kindle version too) for any women's group, but might also work for other Gnomes willing to wander with their significant others into touchy-feely territory.

I have never really had much luck staying interested in other devotional studies, but this one makes me want to dive deep into the scripture. It brings these women to life in full color, and I can fully feel their struggles and joys. I can relate to them. Sometimes I cry for them, or laugh out loud. If my husband is near, he asks me what is so sad or funny. I share the story with him, and in doing so bring a better understanding to him as well. Sometimes it's hard for me not to move on to the next day's "assignment" because I just want more of the very poignant questions that the authors pose. While this is a study of the ladies in scripture, it also gives understanding to their relationships with other people in their lives, and gives me a glimpse to what the other people are feeling in their interactions with these ladies. I would recommend this book to any woman who wishes to understand the people of the bible better.

This book is my favorite go to for nighly reading. It’s so inspirational and really has improved my life. It’s very detailed and offers amazing prayers and questions to really keep you interacted. I love this book and I’m so happy I discovered it. It makes reading the Bible better because you understand the dynamics behind every story. It’s needed and should not be excluded.

I learned a lot about women's roles in the bible and how influnencial they were. I learned that there are many strong women in the bible that you don't hear a lot about. This book was very thought provoking. The stories of the women in the bible are stories everyone should know. You can learn a lot by reading them as I did. I would recommend this book to anyone man or women who is religious or spiritual. I think everyone can learn something from this book. I believe everyone should read it.

A study of women from all walks of life in the Bible, this is a great study for someone who has never done one before but a little repetitive for someone who has. I was seeking something more in-depth than I've done before and was a little disappointed at the surface content. This would be great for a new Christian or a young woman. It was a bit lacking for someone who has been a believer for 45 years.

A few years ago I read a life-altering book by Leslie Householder called: "The Jackrabbit Factor" and I can honestly say my life has never been the same. My husband brought it home along with a large pile of other books. I wasn't going to read it. I had read a few other "self help" books that deal with the power of positive thinking etc. They were boring and more about how to rip down and destroy the people on the ladder above you. That swimming with sharks mentality wasn't for me...ever.The first thing that caught my eye on the unusual cover were three words: Why You Can. Still, I procrastinated. Finally, having no other book that appealed to me, I began to read. It was a short book and I finished it in a hour or less. The minute the book was finished, I re-read it. Then I re-read it time after time, underlining, highlighting, and consuming the ideas presented.I can honestly say I think differently. I do mean THINK not think. There is a difference, as you can see. I am only limited by the breadth and scope of my imagination. After all, imagination is the key to reality.

What a fun, easy read! I ended up buying for 3 family members. It actually gives you the missing piece to manifesting. Loved it!!

Labor has committed to a 45 per cent reduction in emissions and 50 per cent renewable electricity by 2030.Politicians are championing a range of pet projects, from Snowy 2.0 to new interconnectors, power stations, renewables and batteries. Electricity is often on the front page of our newspapers.Matthew Warren, like many energy and electricity system experts, is frustrated by the politicisation of electricity in Australia. For 15 years he has been an insider professional, including at the Clean Energy Council, the Electricity Supply Association and the Australian Energy Council.His book Blackout tells “the story of the electricity crisis in Australia.” It combines political history with an exposition of how our electricity system actually works, the strengths and weaknesses of current and prospective technologies, and the prospects from here.There can be no doubt that a system built on large-scale coal-fired power stations is lurching in new directions. Subsidies and consumer enthusiasm have driven a rapid uptake of rooftop solar PV. A quarter of Australian houses now have them, in some cases destabilising street voltages. The Renewable Energy Target has driven significant deployments of wind generation in the small and relatively isolated South Australian grid, undermining the business model for its base-load power stations. Coal-fired stations have closed, reducing reserve capacity at times of peak need.Is it a crisis?The state-wide ‘system black’ in South Australia in 2016 was, according to Warren, “an inexperience blackout,” because “the grid was being run on old rules for a new system.” But the blackout of 200,000 homes in Melbourne on 25 January 2019 “happened because there wasn’t enough generation.” He looks past the “faults that are to be expected when running big generators hard in high temperatures” because there are supposed to be sufficient reserves, concluding that “it was a policy failure blackout.”“The most recent summer of blackouts and blackout warnings”, says Warren, “is the new normal.”He despairs at the level of intervention now being driven by politicians and their various pet projects and policies. This reduces our National Electricity Market to a dispatcher of electricity, eliminating its role as a real market that signals where, when and what kind of investment is required. It turns electricity infrastructure investment into a political lobbying exercise.Warren most clearly illustrates the difference between expert and politician led electricity development with two case studies. Renewables were integrated into King Island’s diesel generator based system by Hydro Tasmania. The experience gained allowed Hydro Tasmania to roll out “a shipping-container modular system to other remote grids” and position itself as a world-leader in renewable micro-grids.The contrasting study is Alice Springs, which introduced renewables under the Federal Government’s Solar Cities program. Plagued by blackouts, interventions included new gas and diesel generators.“King Island”, says Warren, “has a renewables micro-grid designed by engineers. Alice Springs has a renewables micro-grid designed by press release. It is an important difference.”This serves as a warning for the haphazard approach we are taking to the much larger National Electricity Market. Warren warns that unless the market is fixed quickly, governments will be forced to divert perhaps $100 billion or more that should be spent elsewhere into building power stations, killing the market for good. Australia, he says, “is currently well advanced on the road to that catastrophic policy fail.”Warren thinks that politicians should stick to setting rules in the National Electricity Market, and targets for emissions reduction, and then let engineers, businesses and investors get on with making the system work.But he is not optimistic. His assessment is that “the grid is in a slow-moving crisis.” Uncertainty has stalled new investment in generation and our ageing fleet of coal-fired generators are “shuffling towards their use by date, and we have no plan for replacing them.” He sees reserve margins getting tighter each summer and “policy-induced blackouts” as federal and state governments bicker about their rival interventions, with the grid “slowly degrading” behind “this pantomime.”Warren counsels that “electricity is not a cause or political ideology. It is a machine.” He has three steps to resetting the machine. We need to admit we have an electricity problem; we need a credible plan; and we need the right political and commercial conditions for investment.Above all, he exhorts, governments must “stop trying to design and then build the grid themselves.”Warren says the National Energy Guarantee “could be the centrepiece of a suite of reforms needed to guide new investment in generation,” but it’s not sufficient.The contemporary media environment demands a “visible, public-facing entity, chaired by a Reserve Bank Governor type figure, whose primary job is to constantly and sagely inform and reassure Australians that the electricity reform is being managed successfully by experts, while being able to respond quickly to political and technical debates.” He sees the Chair of the Energy Security Board taking on this role, with the Board’s role expanding from oversight of the implementation of the Finkel Review. A reformed Board could “coordinate the technical horsepower of the electricity A-team and use it to fill this critical role as the go-to agency for comment on electricity issues.”Given the important role Warren sees for gas-fired peaking plants in complementing renewables, the book is light on about the problems of gas supply security and price in south-eastern Australia and its implications for electricity.Despite this, Warren’s Blackout is a timely contribution that can be expected to improve the electricity policy, system and technical literacy of anyone who commits the modest time it takes to read it. It is especially relevant for our political and media class.It could also be considered Warren’s case to be appointed to chair a reformed Energy Security Board.With Labor expected to win this year’s election, a degree of policy stability could be possible. This would be built around the architecture of National Energy Guarantee and the targets for 50 per cent renewables and 45 per cent emissions reductions by 2030. That means many of our existing coal-fired power stations will close in the next decade. The new government will have no time to waste getting the policy framework in place to support the investment and building that is going to have to take place: non-hydro renewables are only 12 per cent of current generation.Labor will need to resist an array of lobbying on pet projects from various interests. Perhaps its best friends will be in the superannuation sector, which could properly assess business cases and mobilise the investment needed to build a renewables-dominant grid with dramatically lower emissions and avoid running out of electricity.

My father's ancestors came from the Duluth area and northwestern Minnesota. My grandfather workedhis entire life in the shipyard. I left Minnesota 25 years ago. A catastrophic injury three yearsago brought us back into Minnesota as we traveled to Mayo Clinic monthly to get repaired. We are nearretirement age now and have decided to move back to Minnesota, and to make Duluth our permanent home.I ordered this book several months ago. It was very thoughtful and touching to read. I ordered copies forboth of our sons. I thoroughly enjoyed each of the essays and derived much from having read them.I came from a time period, and an area of the country, where real things still matter and the "little pleasuresin life" are what are most enjoyable. If you grew up in Duluth back in the day, this is the book for you. I enjoyed every single page.

I really loved this book of essays. I have a deep love for Duluth and the North Country even though I grew up and live in Minneapolis. This was poignant and heartfelt. It made me want to get in my car and drive North. This Man can write!

wonderful writer, really gives you the feel of living in Duluth, Minnesota. I want to read more of his work.

This book made me miss Duluth so much I cried while I read it. I talked about it in book club yesterday, then came home and made motel reservations the end of May in a place very near the bridge. I can't wait to see it again!

This book was an excellent read for me partly because the author's father was our pastor in the tiny town we lived close to as teenagers.It was also interesting because we spent 3 years in Duluth at summer school and experienced many of the same things.Mainly I found Barton very witty and he made me look at things in a different way than I usually would. I read two storieseach night until I finished the book. It was a perfect book to end the day with.

I am from Duluth, MN. This is such a neat book to read for anyone from MN or the Midwest. Brings back memories. Thanks.
