The only reason I give this 4 stars is the print quality. No issues with the tab or the staff music, the issue is with the diagrams. Over-inked, so you don't see the graphics intention on 75% of them - however, this doesn't keep me from scoring 4 stars at least. I have an Intermediate musical background, and own several other Grimoire's; the understanding of the exercises is clear. I would assume even a slightly better than beginner would quickly understand the exercises given the tab and suggested fingering is there. I would not necessarily recommend to a beginner unless you are really committed to expanding your guitar skills, as it does assume and clearly states at the beginning that if any of it doesn't make sense, you need to consider the "scales and modes" to help you gain that knowledge.Commit to the exercises, and over time (probably quicker than on your own) you will improve speed, accuracy, and articulation.an opinion:I have seen other reviews complaining about the tabs; no issues with my received copy. However, again if you are actually following the instruction provided regarding the patterns I would think that even if the tab is somewhat hard to read (is it a 6 an 8 or 0?) it would become clear based on the pattern explained (or even the staff music).

The exercises themselves are great. This is a solid manual, easy to follow. I bought this for my husband, a Christmas request, and just opened the envelope to wrap it. I knocked off one star because the cover has a rip. The book was advertised as new. No big deal, maybe it got ripped during shipping. We’re not too picky. Then I noticed all of the greasy fingerprints on the cover (not mine) as if multiple people had picked up the book and flipped through it. Two star deduction for grossness and making me look like I cheaped out and bought him a used Xmas gift. Again, rating is for condition. All of the Grimoire books are good. Just a little bummed that the seller shipped me finger grease.

If you play guitar and want to add depth to your solos, buy this book, and keep it on your music stand. Yes, it's that good.

One false move and things are going to end badly (and it's not the kind of thing that they can fix in post).For learning about writing a pilot the only thing better than this book is to find a mentor who has done it successfully. Even if you aren't writing a pilot the author shares tips on writing for television that every writer needs in their toolbelt. If you want to know how to write a pilot and you don't buy this book, then find yourself a mentor.

This books is geared toward writing television pilots and it is incredible. First it's something I wished I had read all those years ago back in college. It's incredibly insightful, very helpful, and teaches writing without making me feel like I'm stuck in a strict writing process.I love creating and have worked on over a dozen pilots in an effort to jump the start the old writing career, I can safely say that every one of those pilots will be getting needed TLC after reading The Hero Succeeds.Kam shows how to generate stories in what feels like a more natural way with emphasis on character wants within story beats. Usually when I read a screenwriting book I find myself disagreeing with the author certain issues, but I'm 300 pages in and I have found every piece of information Kam has written to be incredibly helpful.

There are plenty of terrific screenwriting books out there. But a terrific book on TV writing? There aren't many go-to tomes that are agreed upon classics.And maybe that's because the rise of Peak TV has been a relatively recent phenomenon.Writing a TV show in 2018 is really different than writing one in 2000. TV shows are regularly more sophisticated than most everything you see on the big screen. And, most books about TV writing, that I've encountered, focus on writing specs for existing shows. Very little attention has been paid to original TV pilots.That's why Kam's book is so helpful. Not only does she take you into the structure of a good drama pilot, she also takes you inside of comedy pilots as well--and streaming and cable options, too.As you work through the book, you'll learn how you can build a structure that can survive season after season (if that's what you want to do). But, more importantly, I think, you'll also learn the structure of an episode. How to put together the scenes to create an effective TV pilot.I really enjoyed this book and found it really helpful. If you're interested in not just writing TV but specifically creating your own original TV pilot, you need to check out this book.

This book finally pushed me to finally get an idea on paper into a script. From speaking on the importance of - and HOW to - research, working on grids, and putting everything on your script using her "Hero Succeeds" strategy, Miller knows how to speak on your level, understand how the writing world works, and makes it fun to read. This book isn't a "here's a formula and stick it into this script". She actually makes you think as a writer, emphasizing in every step you're not writing a story, you're writing about a CHARACTER who has a story.I became an instantly better writer because of this book, and finally finished a spec script because of this book.Personally, I think this book works best if you having a basic understanding of script writing (e.g. reading a book similar to "Save the Cat" first will get you the most of out this book). This book is great on its own, but I think knowing the basics while adding this to your arsenal would make you into a knock-out writer.High accolades to Ms. Kam Miller, I'm so thankful. Get this book if you want to be a better writer.

It's as if your kindly, intelligent friend were guiding you through the process. The latter she grounds in character events -- or story events stemming from your primary character -- which I find super valuable. They help to refine a clear and compelling pilot story and keep the most important element of any story, its protagonist, front and centre as an interesting character whose story we'll want to watch (and write). If you're looking for help with writing a TV pilot, simply buy this book.

Lovely box set. I was very pleased.I've only read the first three books so far, so I can't say much about The Heir or The Crown. But as for the first three books, they were pretty good.Characterization was fairly solid, though I felt that America was getting just a touch wishy-washy near the end.The love triangle started off okay, but after a while became seriously tiresome, and all the "he/she loves me, he/she loves me not" stuff got really irritating after a while. Everybody just really needed to have a long sit-down talk with each other - and maybe a relationship counselor.The world building was fair, but not the best i've seen. We didn't really need a lot, since most of our time was spent at the palace. It didn't detract from the story, but I really would have liked to seen a better explanation of the castes and how they functioned. It didn't always make complete sense.One word of Caution for parents though, these books are not quite as clean as a lot of people say. There are a handful of mild swear words peppered throughout the books, and though the main characters don't go 'all the way' romantically, they do come a lot closer than I appreciate reading about - dangerously close. These are the main reasons why I had to detract one star from this review. I would not recommend the series for anyone younger than 15.

Bought this series for my 14 year old daughter. Once she started reading, she read almost non-stop. She kept telling me she didn't want to go to sleep or school so she could just read the books. She finished the series in less than 7 days and now says her favorite series of all time.

This book series has me gripped. I read them all in a week and a half. I liked the first three books more that I did the last two. I like love stories. The first three had a love story that you kept making you want to read faster because there was such build up to anything developing. The last two left me wondering how they got to that point of a romance. I saw it coming, but I didn’t feel any excitement tied to it. As a whole, I loved the series. And even though my favorite parts are related to the romantic relationships, there was plenty of other things that made this series great. The royal drama, the foes turned friends, and true to yourself characters, all were well done. Highly recommended.

I'm posting this for my 13 year old daughter, who I bought the books for and she read.She LOVED #1, 2, and 3. She devoured them! She couldn't get enough, reading any time she could. However, she was disappointed with book #4 and stopped reading. She said " It would have been better if the author would have just stopped at book three. The story was closed and there was a happy ending. BUT, I wish there would have been more to the wedding. Like, I waited with those characters, waiting for the wedding, and I got two pages. That's it. It was disappointing." Then books 4 and 5 are the main characters' daughter and my daughter said it just wasn't the same and it felt like the story was too forced after that. She had fallen in love with the main characters from 1, 2, and 3 and didn't want to leave their world to be with their daughter.So, her rating: Books 1-3 get 5 starsBut books 4 and 5 get 1 star

I've only finished the first one, but I'm excited to read the rest of the series. I'm 35 so don't let the 'Young Adult' category fool you.

I read these books in middle school, and I re-read them every year. These aren't award-winning quality, but they aren't supposed to be. They're fun, exciting, and contain a lot of woman-power scenes to empower young women. The love triangle MIGHT be frusturating, as many say in these comments, but it's still exciting to read about. An all-time favorite.

I had forgotten that I ordered this book set until the day it arrived. I love reading books that have a continuing story line. Just finished 3 and looking forward to the rest. Happy reading!

Two of my teenage granddaughters, 13 & 17, recently read this collection and both love them. I plan on reading them soon.

No other books can make the concept of "entropy" so crystal clear to me. The clarity of the derivation of the Sackur-Tetrode equation in the book is also impressive.

I've been trying to understand the concept of entropy ever since my first course in thermodynamics in the early 1960s. Tying it into the Shannon information concept and pointing out that temperature should have been defined to have the units of energy is a huge step in the right direction. I'm also now convinced that the Bayesian statistical concept that probability is a measure of the lack of subjective knowledge about the world is fundamental.

Ben-Naim really hits the nail on the head. This is an excellent book that makes clearer than any other the connection between information theoretic entropy and thermodynamic entropy. The derivation of the Sakur-Tetrode equation is terrific. His whole set of books are very useful.

"A Farewell to Entropy: Statistical Thermodynamics Based on Information" by Arieh Ben-Naim is really a great book. One can consider it a more technical and detailed version of the wonderful little book by the same author, "Entropy Demystified". Although the concept of entropy has been around for almost 150 years, it still remains elusive and controversial. This can be easily seen by the large number of scientific articles, books, and scientific meetings that are currently dedicated to the foundations of the subject. The interpretation of entropy of a system as missing information about the system has been around for a long time, since the works by Brillouin and Jaynes in the 1950's. However, it has been dismissed by many scientists as a subjective interpretation, although, as it is wonderfully explained by Ben-Naim, these same scientists sponsored even more subjective interpretations, such as a measure of the disorder of the system. The book by Ben-Naim provides a solid and lucid explanation of missing information as a very precise and objective concept. The connection between missing information and thermodynamic entropy is also very clearly explained. The book also contains several examples that are very illuminating. I think the book should be read by anyone interested in statistical physics and physics of complex systems.

I'm writing my own book on the foundations of chemical engineering in which the concept of entropy plays a significant role. In attempting to understand the inherent, fundamental meaning of entropy, I've read much of the relevant literature, starting back with Clausius himself and continuing into Boltzmann, Gibbs and Tolman. While the development of this historical context has been a fascinating experience for me, it wasn't until I started reading the works of Arieh Ben-Naim that I finally started to truly understand what both entropy and the 2nd law of thermodynamics are all about. Ben-Naim connects them together using the work and insight of Claude Shannon's Information Theory. This was a very readable book and addressed many of the questions I had for myself about the subject, which I appreciated. It has technical depth combined with a clarity of message. This book complemented well two of the other Ben-Naim books on entropy that I recently read as well, "Discover Entropy of the Second Law of Thermodynamics" and "Entropy and the Second Law." I strongly recommend this book to anyone seeking to understand entropy.

Finally a book that brings information theory and thermodynamics together in a comprehensive way! Ben-Naim paves the way for a future generation of innovation in statistical thermodynamics using the tools of information theory.The traditional understanding of entropy associates it with disorder. While this view is useful in many contexts, it fails to explain some properties of entropy. Ben-Naim leads us into identifying entropy with uncertainty, or the "missing information" of the system. Information possessed by whom? In this case, we are not talking about perception or communication. Wherever the number of states of a thermodynamic system resides, there resides the entropy.Ben-Naim explains the so-called Gibbs-paradox in a most satisfying way (Appendix O). A related phenomenon occurs when we mix two chemical species and leave the volume and temperature unchanged. We originally have Na moles of gas A and Nb moles of gas B, each in its respective container of volume V. If we now mix both substances into a single container also of volume V, the entropy remains unchanged. If we insist in understanding entropy as disorder, the mixed container looks more disordered; but the entropy stayed constant. This is not a paradox. In this process, the volume available for substance A and substance B to explore never changed, so the counting of states is unaltered. The missing locational information about gas A and gas B is constant for this process. This treatment applies to ideal mixtures, where the particles don't interact among themselves.For processes where the particles do interact, we will observe additional correlations which reduce the missing information, a.k.a. entropy. The physical coupling of intermolecular forces translates into statistical correlations. Ben-Naim's presentation (Chap. 5) creates a further bridge between the statistical, information theoretical understanding and thermodynamic entropy.What I would call the jewel of the book is a rederivation of the Sackur-Tetrode equation for the entropy of an ideal gas (Sec. 5.4). We learn this equation from physical chemistry books as set in stone, but what does it mean? The author rederives it by stacking the missing information due to 4 terms: locational uncertainty, momenta uncertainty, quantum mechanical uncertainty principle and the indistinguishability of the particles.For all the bridges that Ben-Naim constructs between information theory and thermodynamics, there remain some gaps. "There is no formal proof that [the counting of states and the quantity defined by Clausius in terms of heat transfer and temperature] are identical. The validity of the relationship between the two quantities ultimately rests on the agreement between the calculated values of [entropy] and experimental data based on Clausius' definition". This state of affairs is however not unique to entropy, as science rests on many empirical relationships.The book is well-written and can be used by researchers and students of undergraduate and graduate levels.

The book contains great pieces. However, the music has been printed in very small font, which is difficult for me even as someone who is fairly young. It's not impossible to read, so I would still recommend purchasing, but I feel this could be improved.

The book came clean and looking brand new. I forget if there was still that plastic wrapping on it when it came but either way, I was very pleased. It also came with a CD. I don't know how well the CD works because I never needed to use it but it didn't look scratched.

I have half a dozen vocal literature books for my teacher to choose songs from.this is my "go to" book for my teacher's first song choices to learn.
