I love these stories. I read all of Terri's books. She's an amazing author.

This book is a light compilation of short "as told to" stories. While I don't believe, I felt the authors did and this enhanced the story telling.

The stories were entertaining and spine tingling.

Great Stories, fast read. Just creepy enough to give you a bit of a shiver. I like that the stories were written as they were told to the authors and that some of them were stories that the author themselves experienced.

Great anthology of ghost stories! If you are reading at night in bed, you might start hearing noises, feel like you aren't alone, and the goosebumps start popping. I know that happened to me.

This book was a collection of short ghost encounter tales both author's have compiled for your reading pleasure. The tales are very short and not very scary. They cover a variety of different types of tales along with some down to earth advice. A good number have been shared by others telling the authors their own encounters. It was a short, quick read. Style wise, I have read many of this type before. It's probably just me, but after reading Tom Slemen 's books, many others don't match up.

I grew up Pentecostal. I have been a part of the Pentecostal movement all my life and currently pastor a church in the Assemblies of God.Over the years I have worked to learn the other streams of the Church that have been part of Christianity for centuries and have grown in appreciation and practice for these streams. I have understood "evangelical" more readily as a Pentecostal, but learning the "sacramental" has offered me deep joy.Smith's book calls us to embrace all three movements. How can we possibly think of one without the other two? (We DO bring in our hardened categories, however.) Once I learned more about the Table of the Lord, I have learned MORE about the presence of the Spirit and the activity of the Spirit than ever before.Smith offers the "gems" of what each movement brings to the Church. He offers warnings of being out of balance in any of the areas as well. The book is concise and thought provoking. I would encourage any pastor, but especially those who are Pentecostal, to pick this book up and allow the encouraging thoughts call us to examine ALL that Christ has to offer the Church!

Wow! I bought this book in the first days it was released. As a pastor of 25 years (and now I train pastors) I believe this book can be groundbreaking for the church. While it is a shorter work, it is power packed and full of dynamic concepts needed for the church of today. I finished it today and I plan to buy many copies to give away to leaders in my denomination.

Gordon Smith's thesis is clear in the title. The Church should be evangelical, sacramental, and Pentecostal. Smith showcases how being all three of these will protect the church from some of the excesses and traps of the others, therefore giving the Church the ability to be a well-rounded worship community. Toward the end, I do think Smith makes too big of a deal about how our worship spaces look and how they should physically represent how they are all three of these forms. I think this is simply impractical for some buildings that house church communities, but this does not take away from this important work.

In this excellent book Gordon Smith reminds us to embrace all of God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and the three primary ways in which God imparts grace to His people. Smith encourages us to see the value in all three (Evangelical, Sacramental, and Pentecostal), instead of just embracing one and disparaging the other two. Smith's words help us to find appropriate godly unity for the church if we will humble ourselves enough to embrace it.

Excellent concept and way to re-think church. But if you only read the opening chapter, you'll get the point. The rest of the book simply fleshes it out.

Gordon Smith reveals how important each tradition is to each other and to Christ. His analysis teaches a sense of unity through openness to learn the rich blessings God has gifted to each tradition. It is in unity where we are able to truly be the kingdom of God on earth. This book is a must read for the Church today!

Loved his review of these three great traditions...and how they are each facets of the faith once delivered to the saints and therefore we are all three, ideally.

This book was fantastic! Smith offers great insight into the three major streams of faith throughout church history, and he powerfully calls the Church to re-engage with each, demonstrating the importance of the Word, the sacraments, and the Spirit in the life of the church and the life of all Christians. As a pastor, I’m encouraged and inspired to give much greater emphasis in my church to that which I’ve been lacking, and thus, to be more engaged in the life of the ascended Christ.

Just in time for Pope Francis to canonize Saint John Paul II on 27 April 2014, we have a new book on the saint by popular Catholic youth speaker Jason Evert. Evert, Jesuit-educated at Brophy Prep, has made a career with his wife Crystalina as a popular fixture on the Catholic youth and young adult speaking circuit. Speaking in the U.S. and beyond, they emphasize the value of chastity and of saving oneself until marriage, frequently citing their inspiration from JPII's theology of the body. As such, it's highly appropriate that this new book focuses on the "five loves" of a pope who focused a good part of his ministry on recovering a self-sacrificing notion of human love for the public square. This is a reverential book written with style and humor in an accessible, non-technical style. If you've read Evert's other books on sexuality and relationships, you'll know what to expect here, but there's a more warmly personal focus in this book on the pope whose love for humanity inspired so many. If you want uplifting spiritual reading for Easter, I highly recommend this paperback book as a simple love letter to the "pope of the young" whom so many of us still recall with deep affection.

I've been dying to read this book since it came out, and when I finally got around to reading it, it didn't disappoint. It is eminently readable. This is very important to me since I desire to do spiritually reading, but I have a baby, so my brain isn't all there because if sleep deprivation and other demands! This book drew me in. The structure was engaging...the first part is a biography of JPII and the second part describes his five loves in detail. One thing that struck me was that Jason Evert said he only included stories he could verify about the Pope because he wanted to craft an authentic biography, not a mythology. I also love that in mind he Epilogue, Evert acknowledged that reading about such a giant of the faith can make us feel discouraged or unworthy. He encourages the reader to take these feelings and transform them by seeing them as inspiration to prayer. He also acknowledges that he can pray more, as well. I appreciated his humility! This book was an excellent primer on the life of JPII and it makes me want to delve deeper into his writings and look into more biographies written about him (such as George Weigel's book). Finally, one important thing I took away from this book was the impact JPII's father had on him. It was his father's lessons about piety and faithfulness that helped JPII grow into a spiritual giant. His father, through his own prayer, struggle, and example, planted the seeds in Karol that came to fruition and benefitted the entire world. As parents, we may not become great saints, but we can plant seeds in our children that the Holy Spirit and Mother Mary may water.

St JPII was the pope during the time I was growing up. I have heard the stories of how he would sneak out of the Vatican to go skiing. It made me remember he was human like the rest of us. I cried when I learned of his passing. It was like a close family member has died! Somehow I came across this book and had to buy it. Wow, his life! His dedication and love for God and the Virgin Mary and the obstacles he constantly encountered! I also have a quick version of the CD of this book (from a different site,) that I admit I listen to over and over, especially when I am distressed to focus me back on that we all can learn to be saints. That what I am facing my life is not bad and to put my trust in Jesus as St PJII did! The author did a great job in writing this, I laughed, cried, smiled and contemplated. I hope you enjoy the book as I did!

I read this book in absolute awe. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is I felt that the section on the Theology of the Body was drawn out too long, that it could have been shorter without losing it's full meaning.What a remarkable soul Saint John Paul II was/is. His mystical prayer life as it is beautifully offered by the author Jason Evert, has a power which kind of sets a goal for the rest of us to achieve - that God wants this for all of us - and will grant it to us if we truly want intimacy with Him . . . as incredible as it may seem.The confines of time and space didn't seem to confine this Pope. His deep immersion in prayer was always more important. He seemed to be already living in eternity.I really appreciate the effort it must've surely taken to find the stories that are included in this book - plus the time to actually write the book.If you seriously wish to strengthen your relationship with our Lord, with His Blessed Mother, this book is a classroom and John Paul II is our teacher. Please read it!
