This is quite good, although not something you're likely to read from the start to the finish in one go. I came back to this in between other books and was surprised when at one point the author mentions this his how he assumed people would read this. That's what I liked about the author he wasn't pretending this is the greatest book ever written or that it will even hold everyone's interest. Basically George is a stay at home dad who does some freelance photography for weddings to pay the bills. Having written a previously successful book (and I like how he acknowledges authors monitor Amazon, and talks about putting that book on the free list and things like this), he has decided to take up a new challenge of celebrating the day allocated to every date of the year, some days have multiple entries. He doesn't even know what many of them are before looking them up on the day. Although this isn't a really interesting thing to do for an adventure, he somehow makes this mundane adventure fun or at least mildly interesting at times. Although as I said you'll probably need a break from the entries from time to time.The author comes across a guy you wouldn't mind sitting next to on a plane or something, as well as a great father and caring person towards others such as his neighbours who sort of kidnap his cat each day. If this book was that interesting with lets face it fairly boring in real life subject matter, I can't wait to check out what he has written with more active adventures.
I found the book very entertaining because the humor made me laugh. The author and his wife seem to be a very good match, and I think their children will have many happy memories of their childhood because of the author's creativity in dreaming up adventures for the family. I like books that address a subject I have not read much about previously, and this book about a different holiday each day fits that bill. One thing I wish this author and many other authors today would change is to eliminate the f-bomb and replace it with characters such as @#%(^! This author also frequently used the s-word. With so many expressive emoticons available these days, perhaps an author could choose one of those to express his anger or disapproval.
Since this is the first book by George Mahood that I've read (yes I plan to read more!) I can't make comparisons to his other books. I was a little skeptical about the subject matter but his writing style and sense of humor had me hooked. And being American I couldn't pass up that British 'accent' which was entertaining and enlightening in and of itself. I felt like I learned a little bit of a new language ;)WYou'll definitely enjoy this book and learn about some crazy holidays in the process. I have to read part 2 next but then I'm on to Free Country or maybe the latest book which sounds intriguing as well as uplifting. I have no doubt that George has the ability to inspire, although I think I prefer celebrating inane holidays than participating in a triathlon!

Join George Mahood as he bumbles his way through a quest to celebrate a bunch of weird and wonderful official days, dragging his family along for the ride. National Curmudgeon Day, Create Your Own Holiday Day, Camera Day, and all the other weird and wonderful days of celebration he finds from January to June are featured in this delightful book. Bonus culinary sidetracks include Man Against Can and Man Against Ham. Plenty of chuckles and some laugh out loud moments can be found along the way. Will George succeed, does he find himself? Read the book. What about the rest of the year? Aha! Read the next book. I will.
I purchased this after reading about the adventures in whatever the name of the book is George wrote about traveling across America with his friend and then Rachel (hey, I’m old and I read a lot, look it up). It was good enough to lead me down the Mahood rabbit hole that I’m sure I’ll be falling into for awhile, to purchase Every Day is a Holiday.Every day reading this (okay, it was two days) was, do I even enjoy this book day. But then something would make me really laugh, whether it was the holiday of the day being ‘celebrated’ or a family anecdote related. Back I’d go and be entertained again, right to the finish. I’ll stop now as there is a follow up I need to download.
I enjoyed returning to this book each day. It seemed at first that the author wasn't planning his holiday celebrations very well, but as the book goes on it becomes more clear why this is the case, and the others reasons become more of the story. Sometimes these other reasons work with his goal, and sometimes against - all is humorous. His haphazard and charming attempts at honoring so many ludicrous holidays - as well as a few quite meaningful ones - make for heartwarming entertainment. I really came to like the guy, thinking it would be nice to hang out with he and his family - though it is clear he cooks, eats, and feeds his family far too many beans. His frequent references to his earlier book almost became annoying on more than one occasion, but then next thing he'd be leaping like a frog around his backyard or against everything in his nature sauntering ridiculously to town and back to honor sauntering day, so it's soooooo hard to stay mad. The ending is incredibly sweet. A feel good book - I will read more of his writing for sure!
