One of my favorite subjects--the wisdom and proverbs of King Solomon. One of my least favorite subjects--today's political world and incomplete success formulas.Mr. "K" does not introduce the gift given by God to Solomon--the gift of wisdom. So he has to settle on namby-pamby advice such as: "In Proverbs 20:18, King Solomon advices us to make plans by seeking guidance." Yeah, okay--from where? From the Mrk Zuckerbergs of the world? From Barack Obama and his "gamble" in taking our Osama bin Laden." But I love that unintended bit of humor: "...with only 60% of intelligence, he [Obama] ordered the Special Forces...." I'm not anti-Obama--but I'm pro-clear English.Well, K goes on with illustrations from Benjamin Franklin, Donald Trump (an ambiguous half-wise guy), founders of McDonald's, Apple's Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, and on and on. So properly this book should be titled: "Modern Leaders Who Learned from King Solomon's Wisdom," or similar. Not enough about Solomon's wisdom itself to warrant the title. Not a really pinpointed exposition of the Proverbs and Solomon's life. And, of course, like so many other "success writers," K ignores the fact that Solomon had too many women in his life, stooped to idolatry, and almost dragged Israel back into its tribal and war years.No personality to this book, merely cold relay of some facts, scriptures, and "we should's."

I guess the price should have clued me in on lack of content. Don't waste your money on this it would be better to give it to someone in need.

It is no doubt a very useful book!I enjoyed reading this book. I like reading books about money, how to get money and so on and this book didn't disappoint me. Nonetheless some tips, I think, are a bit old, but they are still acceptable in today's world.It is sure enough worth reading book!I highly recommend it!

Great principles, poor grammar. There are so many great points in this book and the author has done great in conveying where to find biblical references to these points. What was frustrating for me was the typos and grammatical errors that took away from these points. There were several places I had to re-read or try to guess at what was actually meant by the author. With some revision, I believe this could easily be a 5 star book.

I have always enjoyed reading about the wisdom of King Solomon. The book is well-written and explains his tips and techniques to get what you want in life and climb the ladder of success.

What a timeless book idea. The scriptures brought together teach an unforgettable lesson. Thanks for pin pointing his strategies. Thoroughly enjoyed and look forward to sharing. Thanks!

I cannot express just how much I love this series!! There is something about the Marian family, about their lives and relationships and love for each other, that is just so warm and comforting and welcoming. I loved them after Borrowing Blue but now, after 4 books, I feel like a part of the family. The first three books in the Made Marian series are amazing so I had high expectations for this installment, and Grounding Griffin does. Not. Disappoint!Griff and Sam are absolutely perfect for each other. God, I loved them both so freaking much. They complement each other in every way and encourage the other to chase their dreams. Their chemistry is off-the-charts intense and their sweet and tender moments melted my heart. Of course, there were some bumps and angsty times along the way, but the road to their HEA was satisfying and compelling. It was also so, so funny! I was laughing out loud constantly while reading. I love Lucy Lennox's ability to write a story that is sexy, sweet, funny, real, a bit angsty, and heartwarming all at once. It makes her books memorable and impossible to put down!The secondary characters, as always, are fantastic in this book. AUNT TILLY! She is my idol! We also get to see how things are going with the couples from the previous books, as well as deeper glimpses into the Marians whose stories we have not yet gotten. I need more Marians! I cannot wait for Mav's story, and then Dante's.This book can be read as a standalone but I encourage you to go back and read the series from the beginning if you haven't already. You will not regret it!*I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.*

I will start by saying I love this author and I have loved all the books in this series! I can't wait for more. I love the writing style and almost all the characters. I auto buy them all! :)Having said that, I did not like Griffin AT ALL. There was almost nothing about this character that I liked. Ok there was one thing...his humor. Pretty good sense of humor. But other than that he was a selfish, self centered a hole through pretty much the entire book. To the point that at around 50% I almost wanted to give up and stop reading. I liked Sam, he was really sweet and loving, but I honestly think he needed to grow a pair. Not become a jerk and not bend, but to stop being a doormat for a guy who was a douche. It was basically Sam giving and Griffin taking, then running away, then Sam apologizing (for nothing) and fighting for their relationship. Griff kept saying how he couldn't do love because everyone always abandoned him, however he has been apart of this amazing family with parents and 8 siblings for THIRTEEN years who have loved him and who have never turned their backs on him, so that was confusing to me. The whole book was just an exercise in frustration.

How do you top three amazing books in a series that seems hard to top? Read Grounding Griffin and you will know. This author is a bright stand out among so many. Takes two great characters and weaves a realistic, entertaining story from this unimaginable family. It is full of everything that usually fills a MM romance. BUT, she does it just so dang amazing. Plenty of conflict. But these guys just meet it head on, and keep getting better.One thing that I really enjoyed was how in each struggle they had, they never stopped moving forward together. The struggles were not dragged out, and some were very weighty. Even when they did step back, one or both fought for the other, with the perfect balance and commitment.This is kind of insta love. We see it, but they don't. Well not right away. And the journey is so very funny, (I LOVE Ms Lennox's humor), honest, freakin hot, OK, steaming hot, heartfelt, heartbreaking and really clever. Did I mention funny? Some things were easy to anticipate, but it was so well done, that when things did ultimately happen, you are enjoying it so much, it never felt predictable.Having the characters we love from the first three books are just a happy bonus. Really happy and really funny! You should start at the beginning to really know each character, but it can be a stand alone if needed.Enjoy the series. Enjoy this book. Enjoy this author. You will not be disappointed.

Dr. Stern did an excellent job in describing human development that is empirically based. What has resulted is a questioning of Dr. Margaret Mahler's 1st and 2nd stages of development. Though Dr. Mahler's work is superb, her theory is derived from observation, whereas Dr. Stern utilized computer technology to research similar material consequently presenting a major contribution to the literature. Finally, his writing style is easy to read that all readers can benefit from, especially those who have or work with children. I recommend reading this book.

This book along with the works of Bowlby, Schore, Siegal, Ainsworth, Mains, and application by Bromberg are central for understanding of human attachment trauma.

I knew Dr. Daniel Stern and have been very interested in the interpersonal world of a child. His book was not easy reading but I learnt a lot.

As Expected

If we just take the position of a working hypothesis for the developing senses of the self, we find the need for higher order constructs, similar to attachment theory and psychoanalytic theory. What is different here is the organizing principle of the subjective sense of self. Subjective experiences per se, the sense of self-and-other are the basic building blocks in this phenomenological account of the self.Have you ever wished you could ask an infant what he is really thinking, feeling or wanting? It is in seeing what the infant is capable of doing (sucking, looking, etc.) that gives the answer, and the value of reporting and summarizing research on the development of the infant.Stern makes over 400 references to research findings to report consensus in the field and offers new possibilities, separate from any preconceived theoretical construct such as psychoanalytic theory. While it could be considered that Stern is only providing a report on developmental psychology, he is rather presenting an originary approach to psychology in general from an observational, phenomenological, non theoretical framework with implications for psychotherapy.Stern shows that from birth (or prior), infants experience becoming, the process (and result) of emerging organization: (1) Emergent Sense of Self. Infants experience an alive (felt) self while engaging the world. They experience the result (product) of forming relations between isolated experiences (invariances, or patterns) as well as the process itself. Emergent processes:a.) Amodal Perception: Stern reports how infants have an innate learning ability of Amodal (multimodal) Perception, to take information from one sensory modality and translate it into another sensory modality. There is an encoding multimodality which can be recognized in any of the sensory modes, from the sensory specific to the sensory generalizable. Amodal Perception may be the sensory form of analogy similar to the later ability of cognitive symbolization, and appears to allow assessment of the internal state of others. (See pp. 154 ff.)b.) Affects (the overarching mode of all modes): Werner (1948) proposed that amodal qualities that are directly experienced by the infant are Darwinian categorical affects (happy, sad, angry) mixed with other modes of color, sound, shape, etc.c.) Vitality Affects (in the presence of categorical and noncategorical): related to vital processes of life such as breathing, hunger, elimination, sleeping, coming and going of feeling, thoughts, sensations.d.) Mirror Neurons are know to contribute to primary intersubjectivity, affective resonance and imitation, if not empathy as well.Infants do construct relationship as well as perceive the directly due to perception of invariant qualities (e.g., face, voice) related to mother, etc. The infant experiences organization through amodal perception and constructionistic efforts as well.(2) Sense of a Core Self: (2-7 mos.) which includes a.) Self agency (volition) b.) Self-coherence: 1.) Unity of locus; 2.) Coherence of motion; 3.) Coherence of temporal structure; 4.) Coherence of intenwsity structure; 5.) Coherence of form. c.) Self-continuity"The matching of caregiver behavioral variations and infant predelictions gives the infant the optimal opportunity to perceive those behavior invariants (adaptive oscillators) that identify self or other." (p. 73) Invariance (repeatability, p. 80) is the crucial experiential condition under which the infant becomes able to encode a predictable self, and a predictable other. Invariance yields a self, and an other. Memory itself becomes the invariant due to encoding that permits recognition (re-"cognition," nonvariance).One of the foundations of Stern's approach to self is "There are never emotions without a perceptual context. There are never cognitions without some affect fluctuations . . . . An episode [episodic memory, island of consistency] appears to enter into memory [encoding] as an indivisable unit." (p. 95). What gets encoded episodically are not specific memories, but generalized: 1)experience, 2) intuition schema, and 3) imagining capacity--a Sense of a Core Self.(3) Sense of a Core Self with Other (9 mos. and up)a.) Self regulating of the infant for attachment, security, arousal, activation, pleasure, physical gratification, self-esteem (atunement, p. 138 ff.)b.) Self-resonatingc.) Being with: self in presence of other, physical and psychological proximity and individuation (evoked companion. p. 111)d.) Family triad(4) Verbal self (1 year and up)The use of words not only gives the child increased ability of cognition, generalization and identification, but also responsibility to the parent and society's demands. When children begin using words, adults usually become less personal, more abstract, more demanding and more alienating (p. 163). Children use words as an adjunct while adults believe in words, and the imbedded demandsBecoming verbal leads to 1) The objective view of self; 2) Capacity for symbolic play; 3) Use of language and new ways of being with and of being divided between the verbal and nonverbal.(5) Narrative self (3 years and up)Our autobiographical history told to ourself and to others, constructional autobiography as told to us by family. There are cultural enactments and filters affecting our self from subgroups of society, kin-groups and our family per se.The final part of the book is devoted to implications for psychotherapy, which are profoundly affected by research presented so far, and by Stern's own research which focused on process, the now, what he called the "microanalytic interview," assessing a client's instant-by-instant lived experience at any given time. He asserted that phenomenologically we only live in the present moment, and he applied that to his psychotherapy systematically. His work integrates no less than psychotherapy, developmental psychology, anthropology and psychoanalysis.Postlogue: Stern's findings have been updated and corroborated this year in The Birth of Intersubjectivity: Psychodynamics, Neurobiology, and the Self (The Norton Series on Interpersonal Neurobiology) by Ammaniti and Gallese. However these authors still cling to psychodynamic theory which misses the seminal and phenomenological work of Stern.

I lost my earlier edition in Hurricane Katrina. This book is must reading for every serious student of human development,including parents and professionals who work with people of all ages. The text describes years of infant observation and developmental research in a highly-readable format. As a psychoanalytic-psychotherapist, it is a continuous reference work, which is why I chose to replace it in my professional library.In my opinion it is "must" reading for teachers, clergy, counselors, child care specialists, and medical professionals who work directly in serving people. Why? Because human beings are relationally-organized in their developmental history, and this wonderful text outlines the foundations.Having been on the forefront of clinical work with traumatized survivors of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita (2005), I know on the basis of my own first-hand experience how totally disorganizing adult onset trauma affects people; the ability of the core-self to recover from such wounding becomes the significant issue. The "sense of self" lies at the core of the issues involved in healing and psychological recovery. I really missed my "lost copy" and am most grateful to once again have it at my fingertips.Walton H. The chapters are built around each couple, how they come together, and their lives and they all intertwine with other couples. The Sex is hot, their love for their partners is unique and strong. To be honest, I was booked for reviews till December but there was something about this new author and how she talked about this book that made me want to push it up and read it during my free time instead of doing my normal relaxed reading.Each couple that you will meet are m/m and prove to the world that a gay relationship isn’t different emotionally to that of a straight couple. They long for happiness, love and acceptance. Each story has a human element that can’t be denied. Some will deal with the issues of family not accepting them, some will have to deal with judgments and ethics, some will even have to deal with the issue of finding that right partner in a sea of wrong choices, but what stands firm in all of the stories is they were willing to take the risk for love.I think the title says it all, they are gay but they aren’t always happy but they believe they are worth being happy. The sex is steamy, some are new to this kind of passion so watching them learn and even show the courage to finally take the step toward becoming who they were meant to be is emotional at times. Acceptance is another aspect to this book that I found warmed my heart. Isn’t that what everyone wants in life, to be accepted for who they are?While each couple in this book has a powerful message for the readers, I could tell she is a new author in her style and the flow of the reading. I say this to only ask that if you read this book, focus on the message and give a bit of grace to her style because writing is a learning process and I feel she has the talent and determination to grow into a great author. Her characters are strong, although not as emotionally expressive that we would expect considering what they were dealing with, but once again, the talent is there, the process will take care of the rest. Now that I have said this, I want to stress, I did enjoy this book, and I even learned a few things that I hadn’t taken time to consider. Krystal McCaleb has what it takes to polish her work and make it shine just from what I have seen in this book. I would highly recommend you give this new author a chance and read Happy and Gay: Not the same thing with an open mind and heart.

This is a compilation of stories about people (men) who are gay, but not necessarily happy until they find that right person who brings light and hope into their lives. I enjoyed this book and when I read an m/m romance book, I read it for the story and not for any grammatical review - I am interested in whether the author has a story to tell.Krystal McCaleb does have a great story to tell - Being Gay and Happy are not necessarily the same thing. A series of one night stands may fill a portion of a person's life, but after a while, there is a need to find someone with whom you can feel completely comfortable and share everything with, then perhaps the HAPPY EVER AFTER will begin.This book challenges every person (gay or straight) to think about what or whom would really fill that void in their lives that could lead to happiness.More often than not, it is NOT a WHAT, but a WHO that completes us - money, fame, profession, all of those things can demand our time and our interest, but it is usually a PERSON who fills our deepest needs on the cold and lonely nights that all of us eventually face.

While the idea behind this book is good it's the execution that is so lacking. Does anyone really speak the way the writer has written the dialogue? It's far too formal and stilted. My advice is to read your words out loud because it's only in overly acted plays do people speak this way. It turned me totally off.

My grandson is almost 8. He is addicted to Minecraft. Although he is an excellent reader, above second grade reading level, he is not fond of reading because he does not find the books interesting. Well I ordered him the entire set of this series. Probably a dumb idea because had he not liked them I would have been stuck with 9 books. Luckily, I judged correctly. For the first time since he had discovered Minecraft, the video game, he was reading rather than playing. It confirmed Grandma's theory that it was not the reading he did not like, it was the subject matter! Yeah Grandma. So the books get 5 starts from both of us.

I have a nephew that really enjoys Minecraft, so I often buy books for him (it's one of the only things that motivates him to read). Most books I've found, especially the free ones, are not fit to be called books. They're scams, overpriced, with grammar mistakes and bad writing.NOT this book. It's not award-winning stuff, but it's a solid read. It tells the story of a Minecraft zombie and his adventures with his friends. In this book, they go on a "scarecation" to explore the jungle biome. They plan to visit a temple and go to the special zombie park for some cool rides. This zombie may not be human (of course), but he is just like any other human kid, getting into trouble and struggling with his mom picking clothes for him. There's a lot of creativity in this book. Creepy, his creeper friend, takes medication so he's less likely to blow up. Also, the zombies buy extra body parts because theirs keep falling off!I recommend this book to any kid who likes Minecraft, especially the reluctant readers.

I'm reading these books aloud to my 6 year old son at bedtime. I bought them to encourage reading instead of playing minecraft (which he also likes to do). He's not totally reading on his own yet, but he does follow along and can figure out some of the words. The book is written like a diary with daily entries, so we can read a couple of days or a whole week, depending on how much time we have. He loves the stories and always asks for more. My 8 year old daughter even listens in sometimes. The writing is nothing spectacular; it's definitely written like a kid would write (and not a particularly witty kid). And the typesetting/production on the book are not too impressive. The few included photos are black and white and hard to see. But it's affordable and my kids like the gross-zombie-booger-body part-type-stuff, so it's a hit. We are on Book 3 now; I've already purchased 4 and 5 as well. We'll read through them together and maybe when my son is older he'll read them on his own. Bonus: I can brush up on minecraft terminology, which earns me some bonus Mom points.

I have purchased the first 4 books of this series and my son loves them. He is 9! They are just the right reading level and they are about minecraft, something he really enjoys. It is one of the few times I do not have to make him read and he enjoys them. He often comes to read me certain sections he finds funny. The only con, they are kind of short. But the price is right!

I bought the three book set for my 10 year old daughter for Christmas because she loves Minecraft and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. I actually find her sitting and reading these books instead of playing on her electronics! She laughs out loud while she is reading them and can't wait to tell us all about them. She is not typically a big reader and has had a difficult time finding books that she enjoys other than the Wimpy Kid series, but she loves these! They are a very light read and I don't think there is a lot of substance to the stories, but to see my daughter enjoying a book so much makes it all good.

Really great for my 8 year old!! My sons summer home work was to read 1,000 minutes - he has not put up one fight about reading since we bought these !! He is super excited about them! I couldn't tell you if the writing is good or not but for a video gaming 8 year old boy he is loving it and laughing out loud ! We are getting the rest that's for sure ! Thank you thank you Zack Zombie !

I bought these for my daughter who just turned 10 because she is a minecraft fanatic. She finished each book in about 30-45 minutes. Could be a little cheaper considering they are not very long book, but still worth it to me long as my little girl is reading.

My 6 year old can't get enough of these books. He reads and re-reads them. He loves Minecraft and this was the only way I figured out to GRT him to put down the game controller and to read. He is now on his 7th Minecraft diary of a Zombie book. He loves them. I read these with him as well at bedtime and I admit they are cleaver and funny even for an adult. Well written with a good story.

This book is just one-sentence-per-page facts, and mostly pictures. I thought it would be a real read for several hours, and have at least several paragraphs about each fact, like Dan Gutman’s “My weird school, fast facts about sports.” A little disappointed but it does have a lot of fun facts and colorful pictures, so my 8-year old still liked it.

7 yr old grandsons loved it as a gift and read it themselves.

My son has read this book over and over again already and loves to share all the information he learns. It's got short enough tidbits that it keeps kids interest, but still shares the info it's looking to share. Love that it's teaching him trivia facts and he doesn't' even realize he's learning.

8 year old is a sports fanatic and absolutely finds laughter, giggles and knowledge from this book.

My 8yr old son absolutely adores the Weird but True Series. Put his favorite series together with sports, and he was stoked! Great quality book (I also like the size of the book as he usually takes these in the car with us). I would totally recommend this for a sports buff or fan of random facts!

I first read this book to my 6th grade class in 1963. They loved it! I have recommended it to several reading groups. Jean Pierre Hallet made a life long impression on me with his autobiography.

Finishes out my collection of his books.

I truly believe this book should be included in the teaching of black history, even though it is written as an autobiaraphy.

Jean-Pierre Hallet was an amazing man and larger then life adventurer. He confronted the realities of life in the Belgian Congo in the 1950s and 60s with courage, fascination and reforming zeal. He tells his story with remarkable frankness to the point where there many occasions that I wondered whether this was all for real. He confronted racist colonial administrators, suspicious revolutionaries and leopards with the same steely gaze and sang froid. He earned the trust of local communities who had experienced the roughest treatment of colonialists, but who respected his deep humanity and courage. This simply extra-ordinary book will remain in my mind for a long, long time.

The exploits of this man were almost superhuman. His ability to step inside the heads of tribesmen and a wide variety of animals is astounding and insightful. He provides insight into African mindsets and culture I'm still processing. I'd call this a must read if you are interested in exceptional exploits or wish for insight into African cultures.

This is an absolutely knockout true-life adventure in Africa. Jean-Pierre Hallet tells of 12 action-packed years among the tribes of Africa. He became blood-brother to the tall "Watusi" and the warrior Masai, joined the Bwane Secret Society, lived among cannibals, and went on to share the life of the Congo Pygmies. Hallet was taught the art of killing a lion with a spear by the Masai. Does he succeed? You'll have to read the book to find out.
