This artist is from my home town and I went to the exhibit of the original paintings for this book. Compared to those gob smacking canvases this book is...nice. I bought five of these to give as presents to the crop of children that sprung up recently in my near and dear. Not sorry. Still kind of dream about spending the extra $10,000 for the painting. But, then I would only have one, and this way I have some of them all.
This is right up there with a Jan Brett book. The illustrations are so very beautiful and I love the lesson that spreading gossip can be so destructive.

We purchased this, by request, for our library (ie, on the library account). It's a beautifully illustrated book - as it should be, the artist attended the Slade - but problematic as far as cataloguing it is concerned. As a picture book, it will get lost in the adult section. Plus, it portends to be about New England. But there are no badgers in New England.
What a lovely book! Our family really enjoyed the illustrations and appreciated the message within. This quickly became a family favorite and I plan to buy several as Christmas presents later this year.
