There are very few treatises on Asimov, and very few on Frank Herbert. I was incredibly pleased to find Professor Palumbo's book (I looked him up; he teaches) when writing a paper in law school of all things. He explains chaos theory in such a way that someone without a mathematics background was able to understand the larger concepts in play in a very workable, meaningful way. It's heady stuff, and this book treats it with that regard. It is exceptionally readable, and an interesting take on two pillars of science fiction.
This is an excellent analysis of Asimov's 7 Foundation novels, showing thematic unity among the disparity. And yes, chaos theory is involved in the analysis.
I bought this book for its discussion of Asimov's works, specifically Foundation. It did not disappoint as it has many insights.
