It's really hard for a travel guide to disappoint me, but wow! It was unorganized. For instance: Isla Holbox was under the category of the west side of the Yucatan next to Campeche. The images should be helpful, but instead it was more confusing! I didn't feel the fulfillment that I usually do from reading a guide book. There should also be more of a background on the country and the culture. Instead it's sort of catered towards someone who wants to see pictures without any context.

My god, the worst devoid of information. I swear they used brochures to put this book together. It was so bad we ordered lonely planet ebook the 2nd day of our trip. Don't waste your money....you actually don't just waste money on the book, but so much more because if the lack of information. We got ripped off non stop because we had no information to go by.

When I missed a cruise boat once I flew down to Cancun and slept at a nice cheap hotel in the Riviera Maya. I found nice inexpensive restaurants too.I wanted to go back and do this some more but I didn't want to "wing it".This book shows a person how to have a nice trip, and a more authentic trip than the mega resorts provide on the cheap.

The book has good information but is very repetitive. Adding repetitive volume to a travel guide is annoying because it only makes the book heavier to carry around on travel.

We bought six guides. This one was best for us. It had some extra info, like where to SCUBA dive. Plus it was easy to read and covered different budget levels. When we arrived, the guide had predicted things well. It was reasonably up to date.

I purchased this book for our first trip to cancun. It is full of information, and I keep referring to it, Went back to Cancun again this January, and brought this book again !Great reference !

It is a nice book I wish it had information on all there is to see and do in Cozumel and the surrounding areas not just what the authors wish to write about.

I am one among the very few who has never watched a Frankenstein movie, but yet is very familiar with the name Frankenstein. Yet, it's highly ironic that popular culture (in film, television,etc.)has ironically came to confuse the name "Frankstein" with the Monster rather than the creator. This is one of the greatest attributes that has made Mary Shelly a genius of gothic and horror literature: uncertainty. She somewhat forces us to interpret the plot and the characters. For instance, who is really the monster, its creator or the monster itself? And most hauntingly, even more so to this day, where does science draw the line when it comes to the point that technology is playing the role of God? Even throughout the plot we aren't truly sure or convinced that any of the characters have grown wiser, or just sadder, if they learned anything at all. Is the monster a genius? Is he a murder, the "fallen angel," a representation of a neglected Adam? Or simply just a child of innocence that was neglected and somewhat forced into a life of melancholy, despair, and adversity? Even after Mary Shelly had revised Frankstein, she has never changed the story. Her haunting novel still awakens us to think about the knowledge and imagination of man, and its limits, and how dangerous it can become if we start trying to become a substitute of God, or the "modern Prometheus." I feel lucky that i have read this book before actually watching the Frankstein films, which i look foreward to seeing. But i know that the film doesn't follow Mary Shelly's novel exactly, however, it's a classic moment in pop culture. That has good points and negative points: first of all, regardless if people have read it or not, it opens us to a tale that still brings chills and suspense, and exemplifies the genius of the incredible author that made all of it possible. The sad thing is that people who have NOT read the book at all, and assume that they KNOW the story just from watching the classic Frankstein films, are truly missing out on a story that should be read, not just watched. I believe that people should learn this tale from literature first before pop culture. But from the looks of it, i guess it's easier to simply watch the film and be contented at that, which is fine. But hopefully, more people will be interested in knowing the true Frankstein who wasn't just some mumbling, grotesque creature, but one who was intelligent, articulate, an adept orator, and hauntingly just as human (and monstrous) as man itself.

This book was one of the biggest surprises for me! Absolutely NOTHING what I expected. When someone says word "Frankenstein", you think about a lab, a mad proffesor, some lightning buzzing into the bolts inside monster's head. Drop all this imagination! This classical book had nothing of it! :O Maybe that's why I was so amazed. If I didn't have all those expectations, maybe my rating would be lower, but now, damn, I liked it a lot! Since I have so much to say, I'll just drop it into a list, of good and bad things :)1) It's awesome that Amazon is giving free ebooks for classical literature like this! Thanks, Amazon! And what a surprise it was for me, that this Kindle edition is the real original "Frankenstein", but audiobook narrated by George Guidhall is of a later edition (which was edited by the author herself, when her book became famous). So reading those two books where more like reading two separate books for me - one ebook and one audiobook, with quite a lot of changes, even so major as who Elizabeth was to Victor - a real cousin, or just a girl taken from street! :O2) As I said, I have expected this book to be absolutely different! A horror story, about making a man from different body parts. Actually this only took a few pages of the book. All the book was Victor's thoughts about what he had done, creatures thoughts about humankind, and 3) a lot a lot A LOT of words misery, wretchedness and countenance :D My oh my, I have never read so many same QQing thoughts in my life! :D This book could be a good 5 star if Victor's thoughts weren't so TERRIBLY repetitive. He said he feels misery/is miserable/life's misery at least 135 times (just did a search in my Kindle). I won't even count other of his cryings. I should be ashamed of making fun of his inner tortures. Victor Frankenstein had a really difficult life, but I'm not if it was a good idea by the author to write it in such a repetitive way! but on the other hand - it was an absolutely different style from the books I usually read, so also a good thing.4) Never ever don't you dear call a man-made-man a "Frankenstein"! He didn't have a name! Frankenstein was his creator. But the creature was just that - a creature. And what a surprise he was! All my life I thought of Frankenstein's creature to be a mindless monster, with bolts in his head, making ugly sounds and walking like a zombie. That's what those movies show! But this was such a mistake of mine! :O Creature was one of the most intelligent characters in the story! His ability to deduct, to learn, to feel... he was amazing! The story creature told about his first year of life was so heartgripping that I felt so fond of him, so sorry for him... Sadly later he changed.. Loniness makes people (and other creatures) do bad things... :( But still.. he was not a mindless zombie. He was extremely sensitive being.. With emotions on extremities - both good and bad. But wouldn't we be like that, if we didn't have parents and comfort of other people to learn from?I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to read some intricate English language, but who has enough patience to suffer though all characters' repetitive sufferings (pun intended).This book is emotional, but not in a romantic way. It makes You think about creators responsibility against the creation. And most of all, it shows how Your decisions can change Your whole life!

This was supposed to be the original 1818 version of the book, but it isn’t. It’s a bizarre copy - there are no publishing notes at all. It’s missing the Preface. I compared the first few chapters to an online version of the 1818 book and I noticed differences in Letter 3 where a whole paragraph was added. I would need to check the 1831 version to see if that is what this book is. I should return it but it was $4 and not worth the effort.

If you don't like the writing style, it's because you aren't familiar with the English of this period. Nearly eighty years before Stoker's "Dracula" ( an idea stolen from Polidori's "The Vampyre", which was an idea stolen from LeFanu's "Carmilla"), this most-original horror masterpiece was born. So, your only question is, "Is this really the uncensored 1818 version? Because I've only seen one other verified version, and it's over twenty dollars in paperback. All the others claiming to be the 1818 version have been disproved." YES, as far as I can tell, it is. The only preface is Shelley's own original. There is no introduction, no commentary or editorial credits whatsoever. There are no illustrations, and the spelling and language have not been edited. Have a good thesaurus handy. So, here it is, the author's original script, no frills, for a bargain price. Which is exactly what I was looking for.

We bought this along with One Line a Day: A Five-Year Memory Book (Chronicle Books Staff), which cost another dollar or so. The Chronicle book has a nice hard cover gold embossed type and is the perfect diary size. In contrast, this one is so plan, from the paperback cover to the inside paper, that I actually thought it was the galley (proofreading copy) and not the final book. Some people (maybe the sight impaired?) might prefer the bigger lines to write on, but the general quality and impression is so poor, I would be embarrassed to give it as a gift. Back it goes.

I got this for my daughter’s birthday in October. She loves it! She told me the other day that it’s one of the best gifts she’s ever received and loves it’s easy 5 year lay-out.

I like this one cause its much larger and gives you plenty of room and it opens wide enough to write in it

I really love the concept of this book and the simple design. So far it has been durable (2 mos). I would prefer it to be a little smaller but other than that it has been great and I definitely recommend.

Very good resource for Parents to address/educate the educators of your child's school. His books are all great. My only concern with this book is that it doesn't have many strategies for high schoolers. This book is geared more towards elementary and middle school age children.

The book is a quick read, in a nutshell type of book. I like that it stresses these students need accommodations for the long term. My disappointment in the book is it states evidence based in the title and does not source in the text what study can be drawn from to support the technique. It does give a reference page in the back but it is not cross referenced in the text. Also, I could not find a study to support the time theory. I see they don't experience time the same as typical kids through experience and I was excited to see this in the text thinking, again by the title, that I would have evidence to support the theory but no. None of the studies referenced appeared to explore that aspect. I would have given it a 3 star for the evidence based but it was more than OK for easy to use content.

The book did have some great tips but I was a little disappointed at how small the book was for the price.I have loved all of the Russell Barkley books and his videos so my hopes were high for this book. I bought it for me to read since my kindergartener has recently diagnosed with ADHD and was having trouble in school. Many of the strategies in the book were already in place in the school. I ended up giving my copy to our school so they could use it.

As a sufferer of ADHD myself, a parent of ADHD children and a teacher and advocate of ADHD students, I cannot praise Dr. Barkely's work enough. There is a LOT of rubbish printed out there about this disorder, often made to look factual when it isn't. If you want real information and strategies that really work to support children with ADHD, then Dr. Barkley's work should be the first and last place you look.

Good reference.

Very good reference for construction

This is an excellent update of a book I originally received in 1976. The authors have updated it extensively and added all of the needed new information for associations, government & regulatory agencies and building codes. This should be an essential easy-to-read resource for anyone in the industry. Perhaps especially younger engineers & contractors needing a reference to get them up to speed with the terms used in our industry for 50+ years. I also like that it is soft cover and large format with whitespace for notes...much better than a small size hard cover in small print. Knowledge is expensive but this much in one volume is a bargain. Well done gentlemen!

I've had no formal training in the construction trade consequently this is a great reference book for me. As an owner builder I have been using the 1980 addition of this book. This edition is concise, well-organized, easy-to-read, and some humor, (look up mistake), and less than 30 bucks a good value.

Aside from the neat 'novelish' writing, written in a 1st person style unlike any memoir or biography I've ever read before, the parts of Afeni's story that stood out were her personal 'insightful' truths. Really liked the fact that she was a reader. It showed in how she internalized her journey... taking responsibility for her faults... acknowledging how "we dropped the ball..." and actually trying to clarify in the small platform she had to work with, what duty and honor meant to her. This book really is good (and engaging) as it is, and perhaps is enough, though at times I found myself wanting to read Afeni telling her story... full-on-out herself.

Oh my GOODNESS!! I have to say that this was one of the best books that I have ever read. From the first page until the end. Jasmine Guy - first of all - her realness was exactly what I have looked for in every book. She made me love her. From the dedication, to her thoughts on forewords (I'm with you Jasmine, I hate them too) until the very end. I could not put it down. Afeni Shakur was a remarkable woman. She was raw and unfiltered and I love it. Her strength in character was insurmountable. I never knew that Afeni and Jasmine were friends. I actually did not know much about Afeni either so, I completely appreciated listening in on the conversations that they had. All love. It was like listening in on your mother and aunt's conversations as a kid (knowing you shouldn't) and just enjoying the interactions, and later as an adult, relishing in the memories. I was sad when the end of the book came but, happy at the same time. Highly recommended.

i absolutely adored this book. I got it within two days of shipping & read the whole thing within 4 days. You really can catch a feel of Afeni Shakur one of the most strong willed revolutionariest woman of our time. She is also known for being the mother of Tupac Amaru Shakur, someone who changed this world with his words of wisdom & intelligence. This book about Afeni gives you a great insight on her life & injustices Black Americans faced during the past. Afeni was a strong beautiful woman & this book is lifechanging. it also really gives you a great insight on why Tupac was the great person he was! Good read, recommend to everyone! Rest in Peace Afeni & Tupac!

That is, if you were an eighties baby who crushed on Tupac when you were young enough to think everything he said was gold... you need this book in your life. Here's a tough truth for a fan: everything revolutionary that Tupac said was born of Afeni's political struggle(s). And if you've ever dated anybody who was way too young for you, then you may be familiar with the feeling I had one day while dancing with a young person to music from their (this is not a grammar error-- I'm trying to recognize the gender spectrum) parents' generation. This moment was after a series of dumb and disrespectful errors that young people make when they haven't outgrown their allergies to accountability. By the time we danced to Earth, Wind, and Fire, I'd forgiven so much that I thought myself the St. Theresa of cougars. Still, there was something about hearing adults sing about adult relationships that made me think, "I wish I'd met your parent first."I take that detour down memory lane to describe my current relationship with the memory of Tupac. I'm 36 now; I was only 14 when his life was cut short, even younger when the things he said (especially at the Indiana Black Expo) made perfect sense (I know this is a review of Afeni's book and I'm getting there. Promise!). Now that I've lived well beyond the age he reached on this plane, I see how young he actually was. I see how he struggled with and against his own youth to plant seeds in concrete. I finally see that everything green, everything he said that was a celebration of life in spite of, was planted by Afeni. It was Afeni I was drawn to all along. Just watch his high school interview (available on YouTube) to see what I'm talking about.Before I fell down a Tupac research rabbit hole, my fandom was limited to memorization of his radio hits, "Dear Mama" being the most popular. His description of a woman who was both black queen and crack fiend was all I knew of Afeni, but that's only because I was too young to realize that when you hear a young person speak, you are always already listening to the ones who raised them.Afeni is the woman who raised Tupac in a community of Black Panthers, against a backdrop of anti-poor public policies and the burgeoning of mass incarceration. I am so grateful that Jasmin Guy decided to ask Afeni about the path that led her to the truncated story told in "Dear Mama." Ms. Afeni's life narrative is a gift to all who want to understand how the political becomes personal even before an artist's personal life is publicly politicized. This is a book for students of Tupac, students of the Black Panther Party, and students of Black women raising children everywhere-- making the impossible possible and pushing against the system's plan for our demise.

Jasmine does an excellent job of making the reader feel like they are sitting in her almost empty brownstone with them, listening in on the conversation. Afeni does not hold back. She talks about some hard subjects, but she has learned a lesson from each one & is sharing her lessons, wisdom, perspectives w/the reader. The book covers parts of her life before the Panthers, during, and her addiction to recovery afterwards. I'm glad Afeni was able to get clean & love herself and her life, even through tragedy.

We are members of a womens empowerment group, who chose this book two weeks before trhe death of Afeni Shakur; which gave tyhe reading more purpose.During our discussion me noticed our generational differences with some sharing personal experiences with those not of Afeni's time was of extreme value.We continued talking on her strengths and weaknesses onward for hours to our own struggles today. I personally found an interest in Tupac's poetry and lyrics; as I'd never listened to his music before. I'm now a fan!

Though I am a HUGH Tupac fan, Jasmine Guy did a beautiful job of sharing Afeni's story without much mention of her son. This was HER story and it made me love her even more for her love of not only her children and family but for black people as well. Her strength and her will for survival is very Inspiring. She did not hold back or sugar coat her truths, which is rare when Autobiographies of others tend to hide or downplay the ugly stuff. Her life was rough and at times especially her sons life mirrored hers as if he picked up where she left off. Great read and Insite into a women whose revolutionary status was well earned but at a price.

I can't say anything in this review that has not already been said dozens of times in the hundreds of reviews here. In microcosm, this is a well written account of some of the research being done on the bleeding edge of the physics of multiple universes. Like his other books Dr. Greene has written for the layman and tries, and in most cases succeeds in making difficult concepts relatively clear in layman's terms. But it is wise to keep in mind that almost all of what is being talked about in this volume is entirely theoretical. Some physicists do not agree with Dr. Greene's String Theorist approach.Still it is interesting to see the direction being taken by some of the great names in Cosmology and Quantum Physics. While there is little chance that any of this material will be proven through experimentation in our lifetime, the consideration of such concepts fires the imagination and stimulates the creative mind to consider realms well outside the box of everyday thought.

I enjoy reading about parallel and multiverses that come about from some areas in current theoretical research in fundamental physics. I selected this book of the many on the topic of parallel universes since it was written by Brian Greene who is a string theorist and is working on a variety of these topics. He is a person truly gifted with explaining complex topics in physics in ways that make them easier to understand. I have enjoyed his book "The Elegant Universe" on string/M-theory along with the NOVA series DVD's on this book. I also enjoyed his NOVA series DVD's based on his second book "The Fabric of the Cosmos". With this in mind I read The Hidden Reality Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos. Greene in this book lays out and explains nine different versions of parallel universes. The deep laws are those of quantum mechanics and general relativity. Some physicists would say that string/M-theory which he describes are not deep laws. The explanations of all subjects are as expected clear and supported with an excellent notes section in the back. If you want to learn about parallel universes and the ideas that they come from this is an excellent book to read. That's why the book gets a four star rating.The subtitle says the Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos. All nine of the parallel universes are based on speculative physics. Some much more speculative than others.That these theories are speculative he admits throughout the book for which he deserves credit. However, in reading this book I got the feeling that this book was the long version of a grant proposal submitted to be funded. This comes about in the numerous places in which he says much has been done but give us more time to work on these ideas. Part of the reason is that some of the parallel universes he describe depend upon string/M-theory which is a controversial topic in physics. This is because in the 30-40 years of its existence, string/M-theories have yet to make any unique predictions that have been observed experimentally in support of these theories. The theory so far is not even falsifiable. Lee Smolin addresses these concerns in his book "Trouble with Physics" as does Peter Woit in his book "Not Even Wrong". The same criticism is also true for the multiverses that come from inflationary. cosmology. However, there are a large number of sharp physicists working in these areas so it is unclear what the future holds. Parallel universe's from Hugh Everett's thesis work on the interpretation of quantum mechanics, now known as the many worlds interpretation is another area of current research in physics and philosophy. This work is based on the measurement problem in quantum mechanics. Greene suggests an experiment in the notes to test this theory, but it is unclear if this has been clearly thought out and if this experiment is even possible.The discussion on computer simulated universes is interesting. It describes a universe similar to that in the movie "The Thirteenth Floor". While not a parallel universe in ways that physics suggests a simulated universe would make the ultimate computer game. A virtual reality that could absorb the programmers life into the simulation. Almost the ultimate drug. Live life to its fullest would have an additional impetus if you live in a simulated universe so that the creator of the simulation would not get bored with you and stop the simulation. However, since you can't prove that you are living in a simulated universe, do you need to live a life to satisfy the simulator? Interesting.The final chapter entitled "The Limits of Inquiry Multiverses and the Future" is well written and makes an interesting conclusion to the book.

Dr Greene has written a book that deals with the multiverse and in particular, and the reason I bought the book,is he deals with the possibilities of us being in a SImulation. (Look out, Twilight Zone!) Chapter 10 deals with the concept of what is reality -- since all is filtered thru our brains/senses -- what are we not seeing, or how are we seeing whatever is there? A case in point is the movie Thirteenth Floor, as well as Matrix, wherein the main characters are not dealing with 3D physical reality -- they have more of a SImulation, and this idea intrigues Dr Greene.The application of the idea also intrigued the author of Virtual Earth Graduate and he (Hegland) goes into quite some detail in 2 chapters relating how Earth really could be a SImulation, albeit a very sophisticated one. And there are many physicists who are now saying the same thing about Earth and offer credible reasons for thinking thus... including Nick Bostrom.While the idea sounds silly on the surface, one of Dr Greene's key points (there are several) is that physical constants of the Universe should not be changing -- the speed of light, the decay rate of radioactive material, C-14 dating, etc... and they are -- which would happen if we were in a SImulation whose 'envelope was being pushed' by the mathematical rounding errors that are beginning to (eventually) overwork the system, and Dr Green reminds us "Logic alone cannot ensure that we are not in a computer SImulation." (p 289). To really get a sense of this issue, one needs to see the movie Thirteenth Floor.And if we are simulated, is the next level 'up' which drives our SImulation itself simulated? And then do we live in a SImulated Multiverse? And what happens when one of the simulations crashes? Dr Greene's book is fascinating in this regard. He also looks at the Double-slit Problem, Parallel Universes, Black Holes, Branes and Strings.Dr Greene's other main point was that over time, with mathematics that is not carried to decimal points with infinite precision, there are going to be recursions of the same formulas and their outputs which will suffer rounding and approximations to the point where internal consistency is lost, sections of the SImulation would become incoherent, and the Simulation will crash -- is that what happened to the Maya back in AD 800 when they just all disappeared?(See Virtual Earth Graduate for a better, longer review of this issue.)Other physicists suggest that the Earth may be in a quantum computer running "qubits" and they theorize that just the Earth (not the universe) would be scalable to run within the memory confines of the largest computer that we can build nowadays... and all it would have to do is create just those scenes into which the ensouled human moves, suggesting as did JIm Elvidge in The Universe Solved that many humans would be Non-Playable Characters (NPCs) as in any VR Game. If this idea fascinates you, check out those books mentioned. Parts of the concept are not froo-froo and this gives cause to reflect...In short, if quantum physics annoys you, or you just can't feature some of the strange postulates, then try Dr Paul LaViolette's Genesis of the Cosmos book -- he says that Subquantum Kinetics (using the ether) has better answers than does quantum physics with its Dark Matter...

EASILY could be a 5/5. Definately 4.5/5. I'm just tired of Zombie knowledge. Although, author says replace Zombies with any creature you want: robots, aliens etc. Its more about knowledge to create. Worth the investment!

As a budding horror writer, this book is a font of helpful information! I will be using it quite a lot in the future.

Excellent book! Thorough view on all aspects of the apocalypse. Great for writers who need world building and plotting. I highly recommend.
