About the Author
Dr. Jacob Wilson, Ph.D., CSCS*D has over 150 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters and abstracts. WOW In my hands is the BEST REFERENCE Guide to Ketogenic information I have seen. I have been working on being Ketogenic for over two years and totally Keto for over a year. I have sought counsel from the best. Attended and listen to many conferences and lectures EVERYTHING I could find. There are answers here to thing I had never thought to ask.This is a must have if you or family and friends have health issues that Keto can treat. This book is probably the most comprehensive resource on the science behind the ketogenic processes I've read thus far out. I really like the style in which the information is presented which is such that you can simply go to the table of contents and do spot topic reading or just go from start to finish if you want. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone who is interested in the science of ketosis and where the research has been in the past and where it is going in the near future.Sadly, I took off one star because of a most unfortunate suggestion of using ASPARTAME as a viable alternative sweetener in keto-friendly recipes on Page 188 of the book.SERIOUSLY guys?? Aspartame?Dr. Joe Mercola has the following blurb as one of the headers on an Aspartame article on his website:"Aspartame: By Far the Most Dangerous Substance Added to Most Foods Today"Jacob and Ryan, great work overall, but I really think you guys should rethink making ANY recommendations for ASPARTAME.
After listening to a podcast with Ryan Lowery, I decided to preorder The Ketgenic Bible. Recently having changed up my diet and eating more keto friendly recipes, I wanted to have more of an understanding as to the history of the diet and the way that it works within your body. The authors of this book are very knowledgeable and have addressed many of the typical questions of eating this way. This book can be read as a straight read thru, or you can skip around depending on your interest in the topics. The writing is down to earth and easy to understand. I would recommend this book to anyone going on a keto diet that wants a better understanding. The only reason I have given it four and not five stars is because some of the recipes in the back. Many of them look good, but the dessert recipes heavily require the use of quest protein powder. Though quest is one of the better brand of protein powder I have tried in the past, I prefer to keep it out of my diet. It would be nice to have seen some desert recipes that didn't require the use of this ingredient. My husband doesn't have the same objections to the protein powder that I do, so I am sure we will periodically try them and they will be delicious! I would encourage others to read this book!
This is an excellent, comprehensive and balanced compendium on the ketogenic diet, studies supporting its use for various therapeutic, health and athletic performance goals, how to formulate a well balanced ketogenic diet and interesting areas of current investigation in the field. It' probably the best one currently available (I would previously have nominated the two Phinney/Volek books together for that title). My sole critique is the recipe section. IMHO, trying to make dishes that are facsimiles of the high carbohydrate version ends up complicating things, which in turn makes it daunting for the individual who is trying to decide whether to try adopting a ketogenic diet. Better, perhaps, to lead with some simpler suggestions that don't require any esoteric ingredients (e.g. roast salmon with spinach sauted in coconut oil and fresh ginger, grilled steak with roasted cauliflower, etc.). But since recipes are not the reason you should or will buy this book, I'm not even gonna deduct a star.
This now is the best book on the subject. There is a lot of research crammed into this. The book does a great job at looking at mitochondrial disfunction and how Keto can correct it and heal many deceases by doing so. I have been Keto myself for 3 years. I wish this book was out then. It's macro recommendations are solid and fit bodybuilders to the individuals who need it for therapeutic reason such as epilepsy. If you read this book and have not made the decision at the end to adapt to a ketogentic lifestyle then you must suffer from a major mitochondrial disfunction.
THE best guide for everything Ketogenic!!!! I have recommended this book to at least 20 others and even gave my noted copy away for a friend to read over. There is so much information out there scattered between a bunch of different books, the Ketogenic Bible takes all of it and throws it into this one compressed book. It covers everything from history of the diet and the authors, the science of its efficacy, the science of food in general, and so many recipes. This is the BEST starting point for anyone willing to learn more about this diet.
